AGUERA RETIRES

Joe Aguera, whose last day was December 30, 2014, started with the District over 34 years ago. 'Little Joe', who began his employment as a meter reader/laborer, served the District as a Lead Inspector, Utility Leadman, CWEA Safety Instructor, Safety Committee Chairman, and Field Operations Supervisor for the past 30 years.  According to Field Operations Superintendent, Lee Wright, 'Whenever a customer had a question, we sent out Joe.  He knew the 300 plus miles of pipes, laterals, manholes, and cleanouts that serve the Truckee area like the back of his hand.  No one was better at addressing customer concerns than Joe.'  Joe, a former Truckee Fire Volunteer Firefighter/EMT-I, and one of the first Town of Truckee council members, grew up in downtown Truckee, the son of local business owners and funeral directors, Joseph R. and Clare Aguera.  'I've seen a lot of changes in this community over the years' says Joe.  In retirement, Joe plans to spend more time with family and friends and to explore the country supporting the Will Play for Food Foundation to feed hungry children in America, as well as get involved in the local music and dance scene.


HENKEL RETIRES

TSD is proud to announce the retirement of Evelyn "Evy" Henkel whose last day was November 28, 2014.  Evy worked for the District for over 23 years supporting all aspects of the District's operations.  Evy was a District figurehead representing the District at many communty events.  Evy also served on the Board for the local section of the California Water Environment Association.  According to General Manager, Blake Tresan, "We will sorely miss Evy's seemingly inexhaustable energy and positive attitude.  We wish her the very best in her retirement."


TSD WINS TWO LOCAL AWARDS 

On November 25, 2015, the Truckee Sanitary District was notified that it had received two awards from the Sierra Section of the California Water Environment Association.  The District was the recipient - for the second straight year - of the Collection System of the Year Award for medium sized agencies (250-500 miles of pipe).  According to the local CWEA Board President, this award is given to the District with a track-record of superior employee training backed up with outstanding performance.

In addition to the Collection System of the Year Award, District employee, Ryan Clifton, received the 2014 Public Education Person of the Year Award.  According to local CWEA Board President, "Clifton did an outstanding job helping plan, organize, and manage several successful regional safety training events.  In addition, he has been instrumental in TSD's public outreach programs, including Earth Day, Truckee River Day, and Big Truck Day."
TSD Board President, Nelson Van Gundy, expressed pride in the organization, "I am always proud of the job the District employees perform for the Truckee community and especially pleased to see their efforts recognized by their peers."


NEW GM AT TSD

On July 18, 2014, Thomas S. Selfridge retired after 10 years as General Manager & Chief Engineer of the Truckee Sanitary District (TSD).  Succeeding Selfridge is Blake R. Tresan, a 12-year TSD employee, who previously held the position of Assistant General Manager and District Engineer.  Tresan, a California Licensed Professional Engineer in Civil Engineering holds degrees from UC Berkeley and UC Davis.  Tresan is excited about the opportunity to manage the TSD stating, "I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with such talented and dedicated employees for an organization and Board of Directors that is committed to protecting the public health and environment of Truckee".   Board President Nelson Van Gundy said the selection of Tresan was an easy choice based on his experience, knowledge, and enthusiasm for the job; "The District is extremely grateful to Tom for his years of exemplary service.  We are confident that Blake will continue to provide strong leadership for the organization and community into the future".


TSD WINS 3 LOCAL AWARDS IN 2013!

TSD was recently awarded 3 honors by the Sierra Section of the California Water Environment Association. The awards included: Best Supervisor - Gordon Dicey; Best Collection System; and the Safety Award. The District is now eligible for a statewide award which will be announced in Sacramento in April.


TSD CELEBRATES EARTH DAY 2013
TSD participated in the recent 2013 Earth Day Celebration at Squaw Valley. Three staff members shared information about operating and maintaining the sanitary sewer system, demonstrated our pipeline televising equipment, and answered questions from the public.


TSD EMPLOYEE WINS TOP HONORS!

TSD Maintenance Worker, Herb Brooks, was awarded the Collection Person of the Year Award on February 12, 2011, at the annual awards dinner of the local Section of the California Water Environment Assocation (CWEA). Brooks, a TSD employee since 2000, works on TSD's construction, cleaning, and television crews as well as serving on the Safety Committe and the Lift Station on-call pool. The award recognized Herb's superior dedication, performance, and excellent attitude.


TSD HELPS CELEBRATE TRUCKEE RIVER DAY

TSD staff participated in the annual Truckee River Day celebration on October 15, 2011. Three TSD staff members shared information on TSD services with the public at the Granite Flats Campground. The TSD booth included a demonstration of the closed-circuit television equipment used to assess the sewer system as well as displays on pipeline rehabilitation techiniques and information on the recently completed TSD projects.


TSD WINS STATE AWARD

The California Association of Sanitation Agencies (CASA) awarded TSD with its Outstanding Capital Project Award at its annual conference in October. The TSD project encompassed a number of improvements installed at the seven sewer lift stations that surround Donner Lake, including the installation of emergency overflow tanks, bypass ports, and a portable hose reel trailer. These innovative improvements significantly reduce the risk of spills to Donner Lake's pristine waters.


TSD HELPS BREAK GROUND

TSD General Manager Tom Selfridge helped break ground on Phase 3A of the Truckee River Legacy Trail.  The Wednesday, June 16, 2010, ceremony included elected officials and staff from the Town of Truckee, the Truckee Trails Foundation, and TSD. The new section of trail will extend the existing trail by another 4,000 ft. Approximately 1,000 ft of the new trail lies on TSD property.


TSD SUPERVISOR RECOGNIZED FOR EXCELLENCE!

TSD Collection Systems Maintenance Supervisor, Lee Wright, was awarded the Supervisor of the Year Award on February 6, 2010, at the annual awards banquet of the local Section of the California Water Environment Assocation (CWEA). Wright, a TSD employee since 1990, is in charge of TSD's construction crew. The award recognized his hard work over the past year including several months in which he performed his normal duties plus those of the Superintendent. TSD appreciates Lee's fine performance and applauds his accomplishments.


TSD WINS TOP STATE AWARD!

TSD received the 2008 Medium Collection System of the Year Award by the California Water Environment Association (CWEA), a statewide organization of wastewater professionals. At its Annual Conference, CWEA officials presented the award to TSD employees Denny Anderson, Eric Sundale, Raymond Brown, and Rick Collins, shown at left.


TSD RECOGNIZED AT LEGACY TRAIL RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY

TSD was recognized for its contribution to the recently completed paving of Phase 2 of the Truckee River Legacy Trail.  At a ribbon cutting ceremony on July 23, 2009, Board Member Jerry Gilmore (shown assisting Mayor Dr. Mark Brown) gave a brief presentation outlining TSD's commitment to community projects. TSD granted easements on over 4,000 feet of the Phase 2 Project.
